Skol

The Skol are a race that originated from Latani's second continent of Letinel, migrating over in search of new territory, riches and conquest. Legions and families of Skol sailed across the sea to Latani around three hundred years ago and have firmly established themselves as a blight in the southwest ever since. Skol are 8 foot tall behemoths that are stocky and wide with muscle, what would originally be mistaken for stony armor is actually their own hardened skin, which on its own is able to shrug off most blows. Skol forearms, torsos and legs are thick and powerful, enabling them to grapple with even large dragons on their own, their domed heads are armored with bone, with oblong openings for their eyes, ear holes and vertical mouths. Their necks are protected by a ring of bony plates that looks like a wide, jagged collar. Their armored hides come in various dark, faded colors of all sorts, rust, green, gray, purple, black and brown, with small rows of spikes running along their legs, arms, shoulders, and backs, serving as extra protection against foes and predators. Skol have very dense bones and muscles, making them immovable juggernauts for anything trying to face a Skol in combat, which is about the only time you will every face one under any normal circumstance. However, due to the density of their muscles and bones, the Skol are completely incapable of swimming.   Skol are raiders of Latani who believe it is their desity to conquer all, attacking travelers and towns for food, wealth, resources or to simply just kill the occupants. Those unlucky enough to be captured by Skol raiding parties are kept as slaves or food. The Skol have only two permanent settlements, one is on on the edge of the Rocky Bay between the Oarum Grasslands and the Hills of Thorns. Other Skol have joined the forces of the demigod Krimson in the Forbidden Lands and built a second settlement there, but most Skol prefer to leave and make small encampments all across the continent, killing and looting where they please for their own enjoyment. During the Lost Age, the Skol attempted to even make their own established territory and city, defeating anyone in their way, but their plans of an empire was defeated and scattered many years ago by the forces of the now collapsed Jintali Empire. Skol wear thick iron armor overtop of their already tough and hardened skin, making their warriors near impervious to all forms of attack. Despite their monstrous nature, they are very calculating and patient when it comes to their tactics and strategies, combined with their brute strength, the Skol are some of the most terrifying warriors in modern Latani.   Back on their home continent of Letinel, the Skol basically managed to take over the entire land mass, wiping out all other races so thoroughly that there is almost left of their previous societies, because of this along with the disaster that befell Letinel decades later, nothing else is known about them. When there was no one left to dominate, they built ships and searched for land across the sea, eventually leading to Latani. Skol society is empirical, and surprisingly spiritual despite their reputation for conquest and domination of other races. Skol are known to follow the Way of the Pearl Eye, believing in enlightenment and connection with the energies around them. However, unlike the views of other followers of the religion, Skol believe in enlightenment is entwined through both violence and tranquility, which is why the most common activity for Skol other than warfare is meditation. Skol will often be seen meditating is silence for hours at a time if they have nothing else going on.

Culture

Culture and cultural heritage

Skol have a long history of destroying entire cultures and taking over kingdoms back in their home continent of Letinel. They attempted to sail over and do the same on the main continent, but were stopped from getting too far by Jintali forces. Their culture still very much revolves around battle and conquest, but with their numbers scattered, they have only taken a small part of the southwest, with other groups merely killing were they please.

Shared customary codes and values

Violence and cruel-natured thinking seems to be inherent in most Skol, were survival of the fittest and taking advantage of the weak is encouraged in their society. They claim that it helped them become successful in Letinel, and they hope to succeed in Latani as well, with many having ambitions of taking over more land and establishing a nation-state that crushes all in their way. This spark of ambition toward greater things also seems common in Skol, it is mainly what drives them to fight and expand.
"I have never once met a Skol that wasn't built like a brick shithouse."
