Smokebloom Butter
Smokebloom Butter is a rich, soft-spread dwarven butter infused with the essence of smokebloom flowers, a rare fungal blossom found near active steam vents and warm moss groves deep within the Bloom Zone. Known for their sweet, woody aroma and faintly spicy bite, smokeblooms give this butter a layered, floral smoke flavor that's ideal for pairing with stonebread, grilled cave-hog, or savory root pastries.
Originally created by dwarven alchemists experimenting with infusions, it's since spread to fine kitchens and taverns under names like “Skyflame Spread”, “Bloomfat”, or “Blossom Churn.”
“Soft as a lullaby, sharp as forge-smoke.”
Manufacturing process
Instructions
- Infuse the Bloom
If using fresh petals, gently wilt them in a hot, dry pan for 10–15 seconds until aromatic. For dried petals, steep in a spoon of hot water or warm butter for 1–2 minutes. Chop finely. - Blend the Base
In a large stone or wooden bowl, combine softened butter, chopped petals, honey, and ash-salt. Mix with a heavy spoon or spatula until thoroughly incorporated. For a whipped version, beat with a fork or paddle until light and airy. - Rest and Set
Spoon into a clay crock or wrap in waxcloth. Chill for at least 2 hours to let flavors bloom together. The longer it rests, the richer the smokebloom aroma. - Serve
Spread generously on embercrust rolls, griddlecakes, or alongside grilled meats. Some dwarves even stir a spoonful into hot porridge or stew for a floral, smoky lift.
“The trick is not to overpower the bloom. You want to taste it between the fire and the fat.”
