"Stone to Stone, Soil to Soil" - A Dwarven Funeral Chant

A traditional Dwarven Funeral Chant, sung in deep, resonant voices by the gathered mourners during the Rite of the Stone and Soil . It is structured in call-and-response format, usually led by a Stone Priest or Forge Elder.

Call — Stone Priest:
Stone to stone, we carve thy name,
Forge-born kin, now home you came.

Response — Mourners:
Stone to stone, your tale we hold,
Etched in runes, in hearts, in gold.

Call:
Soil to soil, your body feeds,
The root, the moss, the humble seeds.

Response:
Soil to soil, your spirit sown,
In every leaf, your life is known.

Call:
Hammer rang, and so did you—
Built the world, steadfast and true.

Response:
Hammer stills, your work is done,
Rest beneath the mountain’s drum.

Call:
Your skull enshrined, your bones returned,
Your memory stoked, your honor burned.

Response:
We do not weep, we do not wail,
We feast, we build, we drink your tale.

Final Chorus – All Together:
Stone to stone and soil to soil,
Life in craft, and death in toil.
May your name endure, bold and wide—
A root in us, our fallen pride.

This chant is followed by a brief silence, then the clink of tankards as mourners begin the Mourning Meal, to celebrate the life of the departed through food and shared memory.
