The Meint Clinics

Today we come together to mourn those lost to the evils of the invaders, and to renew hope. It is difficult to see much good coming from the deaths of so many, but know, my fellow Meint, we will not remain idle. We will bring healing to the people, and they will once again know the gods smile on them.

Coljora

The Dentherions, in their rush to empire, did not much care who died as a result. After taking away medical technology from the countries they invaded, millions succumbed to diseases that healing professionals once cured.   The Meint, followers of the Taangin death god Rekarsius, found this an atrocious act of malice and evil. All people should make the most of their life before Rekarsius claimed them, and the cruel new laws making most medical care illegal went against their beliefs.   Under the auspices of their veritiate deathknell, Coljora, the Ramiran sect gathered together several adherents and formed the first Meint Clinic.   Coljora designed the Meint Clinics as underground, and therefore hidden, medical clinics. They would treat local community members they trusted, and grow their influence from there. Ramirans, desperate for care, flocked to the first clinic in the basement of the largest Meint temple. Within five years of Dentherion rule, the clinics had at least one branch in each of the major cities and larger towns.

The Clinics

As one might guess, the clinics not only needed enough room to operate, they needed mobility in case of raids. All medicine and equipment were kept in wheeled cabinets or on wheeled carts. Care beds and operating tables folded down for quick removal. A fire was kept stoked in the records, so the paperwork could be burned rather than confiscated, which would put patients at risk.   The mobility kept most clinics from being discovered and shut down, their doctors and care professionals executed. Neighboring countries' average citizens envied the clinics, but it was not until rebel organizations popped up in the Dentherion Empire puppet states that they spread outside of Ramira.   Coljora's successors ordered the clinics to expand, and for doctors to train locals in the use of medicines and equipment. By the time Jarosa ascended to veritiate deathknell, scattered clinics were found in all western Theyndora countries, providing much-needed aid to desperate populations.

Jarosa

Jarosa became veritiate deathknell not because of a religious calling, but because the leader of the rebels in Ramira was the veritiate deathknell. As a rebel, she occasionally associated with other rebel leaders from across Theyndora, and worked with them to found clinics in their communities.   It was not until the Ramiran rebels joined the Wolf Collaborate, however, that the Meint Clinics became a household name.   Jarosa supported the Jilvaynan rebel leader, Alaric, and his belief that if the disparate rebellions in the empire countries worked together, they could overthrow the Dentherions. He named his organization the Wolf Collaborate, and the various rebel leaderships in western Theyndora countries joined.   Part of the agreement to join was the dispersal of medical care. Jarosa sent doctors to leaders in Collaborate countries, and they founded underground clinics of all sizes. More and more people began to receive medical care beyond herbs and prayers, and outcomes improved. Communities loved the clinics and the Meint who manned them, and pitched in to move them when Dentheria raided.   Puppet kings discovered that the Meint and their clinics were more popular than they were, and unrest followed the raids. They took a hands-off approach, which annoyed Dentheria. Upset at the lack of progress in ridding the empire of the medical aid, the Lords' Council promised to punish the kings if they continued to fail to shut them down. The kings, unable to do so, lied about dismantling them and bringing their doctors to justice.   The clinics continued their underground care, and kings tiptoed around the subject.

The rebels in Ramira are the Skulls. Jarosa had her rebels paint their faces with a half-skull when completing missions. The image spread like lightning, and became a general symbol for all empire rebels. Because of this association with the Meint, common citizens trusted the Skulls, and therefore rebels, more.

Care

As factories are Dentherion-only, the Meint must purchase their equipment from underground thieves, syndicates, or make home-grown alternatives. They've become adept at discovering new medicines from locally sourced plants with the help of herbalists, making them less reliant on stolen Dentherion medication of questionable quality and age.

For those working in a clinic:   ________

  • Everyone wishing to become a doctor, assistant or receptionist must receive their initial training in Ramira, at the central temple. Subsequently, they can choose a clinic to apprentice in.   Anyone can attend trainings; class, family, and religious standing have no bearing on acceptance (though most students join the Meint faith). Failure is common, but individuals are welcome to continue until their scores are good enough to become an apprentice. Doctorship or assistantship is granted upon apprentice completion, usually within five years.
  • Specialists will be sent where they are most needed. Not all clinics will have the same specialists, and sometimes specialists must travel between clinics to care for a patient.   Each clinic will have at least two emergency care doctors.   Each clinic will have a pregnancy specialist who will deliver in-home or in-clinic, depending on the mother's situation.
  • While not common, raids do happen. Hire watchers, and have escape routes marked, so staff know where to flee. Train them how to evacuate patients and family members.   All equipment must be moveable or destroyable. There are no exceptions.
  • Do not tell law enforcement or anyone working for royalty about the clinics. Some nobles donate, but their largesse does not mean they are friends of the clinic. Proceed cautiously when dealing with the wealthy.
  • Understand, that both doctors and patients, if caught by the Dentherion Empire, will face execution. The Meint will do everything in their power to free them, but there is no guarantee of success.   Veritiate Deathknell Jarosa has ordered that those who betray the clinics will suffer a similar fate. Veritiate Deathknell Jarosa is not someone who should be pushed on this.

Each clinic has standards and promises of care approved by Jarosa, and posted in the waiting room for those who can read.   ________

  • No one can be turned away due to inability to pay for care. The less fortunate will receive their medicine for free, while others can pay within their means.   If doctor instructions are not followed, there is no guarantee the medicine will do its job. Do exactly as instructed for the best outcomes.
  • Clinics in larger cities will have specialists and emergency care doctors. Patients may need to travel to receive the best care. If travel is impossible, specialists may make house visits.   Each clinic has at least one pregnancy specialist. They will offer pre-natal care and deliver in-home or at the clinic, depending on mother and baby needs.   There is post-birth care for mothers, but limited post-birth emergency care for babies. The clinics simply do not have the equipment to properly care for severe birth defects.
  • Be cautious who you tell about the clinics. They provide the best care the Meint can give, but they are illegal.   Understand, that both doctors and patients, if caught by the Dentherion Empire, will face execution. The Meint will do everything in their power to free them, but there is no guarantee of success.   Veritiate Deathknell Jarosa has ordered that those who betray the clinics, no matter who they are, will suffer a similar fate. Veritiate Deathknell Jarosa is not someone who should be pushed on this.
