Session 20: Disaster Avoidance for Dummies Report

Reed Macbannin attempted to kill the party in the garden of his estate. He used controlled members of his staff and flung curses derived from the magical traditions of the former rulers of Cauldron Hill. In the end, though, the investigators were able to subdue him and most of his staff as the mansion continued to collapse.   Macbannin pointed out that the collapse would get worse if the experiments in his shack weren't stopped. Nearby the entrance, they found a body partly out-of-phase with the material place holding a handful of transit amulets. Putting on the transit amulets and entering the shack, they found themselves above a broken pump, with an unfathomable amount of witchoil being produced by some sort of eldritch tap. At one point, the investigaotrs had less than two minutes remaining before the pressure built too high and the mountain side erupted in a deluge of witchoil. Thankfully, the pressure issue was resolved and the witchoil tap destroyed.   In the aftermath, an array of experiments and research was found in the Macbannin estate. The common theme that appeared to unite the research was trying to find weaknesses and banes of the powerful fey connected to Risur.   The next morning, in the Central District courthouse, Macbannin was due to appear for the opening arguments of his case before the magistrate, a situation he had repeatedly implied he was looking forward to during his detention by the RHC and had all but said he would get out of and subsequently ruin the investigators' careers. He was instead found deceased in his holding cell of self-inflicted head trauma.
