Festival of Families

"Stepping through the archway of flowers into the field, Ambrose's senses are overwhelmed with floral aromas. Women pass with flowers sewn into their gowns and men toss braided floral rings onto each other's heads. The entire festival grounds is cloaked by a rainbow of flower petals and fruits, and yet away from the crowds and laughter sits a young woman on a bench at the edge of the field. Chrysanthemum sits alone watching a father buy his daughter a candied apple. Her long hair is not braided for the first time in years, and her flushed face tells Ambrose that she has been crying."
— Chapter 23: What Fate May Come

History

First started in the village of Pilkanoe during the first age, the Festival of Families has grown to become a national tradition for each community in Rosara. Every year on mid-summer's day, the 15th of Salegg, Rosaran cities and villages will perform a festival in honor of the familial bonds that ties everyone together.

Execution

The Festival of Families is typically held in a meadow or open field near the village. Each village may have their own unique traditions surrounding the event, but nearly each celebrates in an explosion of flowers. At the center of each festival the community will erect a maypole decorated in ribbons and foliage. Here at this pole different community organizations will host a collection of dances, games, and ceremonies. One such ceremony is the matchmaking ceremony where young adults are flung together in dance in hopes of sparking the light of a future family.

Participants

Parents and children are encouraged to spend time enjoying foods and playing games together. Those who are unmarried are usually unwillingly thrown into matchmaking ceremonies. Anyone who is alone due to their family passing will spend the day feasting with the community in remembrance of their lost ones.
