The Stranger, God of Secrets
(a.k.a. The Unnamed God, the Unknown God)
The Stranger is a godling that arose in the Second Age. It is unknown whether the Stranger is truly a god or was simply a powerful magician during that Age. Indeed, little is known about this godling; there are no icons or representations of the god, nor holy books that can be perused. What is known is that of all the religions to survive into the present Age, the Temple of Secrets is one of the few that has defied all attempts to minimize or eliminate it. Even the Matriarchy of Rosalind, which has otherwise subsumed other godlings into its faith as so-called “saints,” Temples of Secrets continue to exist without interference. The Stranger’s symbol is a spiral on a stone.
Unlike Clea, who preaches that mysteries are there to be solved, the Stranger is all about keeping secrets. There is no outreach or worship services; instead, folk go to the Temple and are shown to stone cells. There, they can confess any secret they wish kept. The priests of the Stranger wear metal masks with no mouths, symbolizing that they cannot repeat any secret told within the temple, and some will likewise go blindfolded, so they cannot identify the secret-sharer.
