Mater Solinas
The Mater Solinas is the highest ranking official in the Matriarchy. The Mater leads the church on matters of spiritual policy and politics. The Mater Solinas can also excommunicate members of the religion, cutting them off from both services and blessings from Raya.
All of the religious knightly orders, such as the Knights of the Blazing Sun and the Knights of the Dawn, report to the Mater Solinas.
Appointment
The 8 Anfili Solis, the "Rays of the Sun", known collectively as the Enclave, elect the Mater Solinas. A simple majority of 5 votes will elect someone to the post. Anyone can be nominated, but nominations come only from Enclave members. That said, most Anfili will accept and nominate names suggested by a wide variety of people, including dukes and kings.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
The Enclave can vote to remove the Mater Solinas. The vote must be unanimous. It has only happened once during the history of the Matriarchy.
