Duke Skirr Lucherto

Duke Lucherto is in peak physical condition for a Lizardfolk his age.

Duke Lucherto is often found in his light armor, always in his house colors of red, green and white.  While stylish, this armor is functional and lightweight, giving him freedom to move while giving him good protection.  Indoors and at banquet halls, the duke wears long robes in his house colors of the finest make.  Unlike many nobles, Lucherto does not wear jewelry aside from his ducal signet ring.

Among the relics of the Lucherto family is a sword, that they claim was forged from starmetal and was carried by the last king of the Lizardfolk kingdom of Sargantium.  It is reputed to hold its keen edge and never need sharpening.

Skirr Lucherto was the first hatchling of his mother, the late Duchess Eorna Lucherto.  He was raised in his home of Villa Sullagio in the Duchy of Lucertolia until puberty.  For the next several years, he trained with his House's armsmen until he achieved proficiency with weapons and the knightly arts.  At adulthood, he was taken to the capital of Lys and was knighted.   Rather than return to Lucertolia, Skirr remained in the capital city as a selected Knight of the Rose, the personal household guard of the king.  During that time, he was given leave to study at the university and read for the law.  While he never stood for examinations and admittance into the profession of barristers, Skirr has a fairly extensive knowledge of Rosalind legal practices.   Skirr remained in Lys until reports of his mother's failing health reached him.  He was released from service and returned home, care taking the duchy during his mother's final years.  Upon her death, he once again journeyed to Lys, this time as the new Duke of Lucertolia.   Since coming to power, Duke Lucherto has preferred diplomacy over warfare to settle his differences with his fellow nobles.  However, his mercenary troops have sparred over the years with the Houses of Ingran and Essenkoff, as both those duchies border his own.  While he has not gained any land over the years, neither has he lost any.   Duke Lucherto was one of several nobles that hosted the Crown Prince Cyrion during his tour of Rosalind.  While they were dining, an elderly woman broke into the feasting hall. She declared that she was the legendary witch Baba Yaga, and that she bore the tragic news that Cyrion's father had died that very evening. Duke Lucherto, despite the distance, insisted on providing the grief-stricken young man with an armed escort and personally led it all the way across Rosalind to Avencourt.  He remained in Avencourt long enough to attend the coronation of King Cyrion Indigo as king of Carador.

Duke Skirr holds to the words of his House, Honestum iter est Numquam Recta - "the honorable path is never straight".  While the duke acts proper and honorable in his actions and with his relationships, he keeps his own counsel and does not lightly speak his thoughts aloud.

Duke Lucherto is one of the few nobles that truly grieves at the anticipated passing of the royal House of Pollux. As one of the founding great houses of Rosalind, House Lucherto has always been steadfastly loyal to the throne. While others are beginning to plot for the soon-to-be-vacant Rose Throne, Duke Lucherto has remained aloof and keeps mum as to his intentions. It is believed that should a child of the House of Pollux were to be found, the duke would support their claim for the throne.

Duke Lucherto is part of the so-called "Green Faction", a political alliance of duchies that includes the Houses of Tepest, Poldern, and Warrender. At court, the Green Faction tends to advocate for the more sedate (some say conservative) path in political affairs. Presently, Duke Odinel Poldern is encouraging his allies to support him for eventual king upon the death of King Brenwell, but Lucherto has not publicly declared either way.

Duke Lucherto is married and his wife has laid eight eggs, of which three have hatched; two girls and a boy.  All of his children have reached puberty and started adult life.

Duke Lucherto prays regularly at the local church of Raya Invicta and tithes an amount that is proper for his station.  He has been known to invoke St. Astor from time to time.  Whether his devotion is real or simply a product of his position is unknown.

Duke Lucherto enjoys hunting, particularly large game.
