Astaroth, Lord of Demons

While Korax the Dominator will always be known as the original god of evil, in many ways Astaroth, Lord of Demons, is both better known and feared.  It may have much to do about the fact that he resides in the Dark Tower in the very center of the continent, in the middle of the Desolation, and periodically sends out vile monsters to plague the fairer nations with their evil.   The myths and legends about Astaroth are varied and inconsistent.  Some legends suggest that he was once a judge in Eoa's empire, others suggest that he was the chief lieutenant of Korax.  Still other legends claim he is not from this world at all, but from another dimension peopled with horrible demons.  All of the myths describe him as hideous in appearance.  Most stories indicate that he was a powerful Archmage in his time.   Every legend holds that after the Cataclysm, he built the Dark Tower and has resided within it to the present day.  It is claimed that none have seen him and lived within the Tower.  Folk tales sprang up during the Third Age about heroes and ordinary folk meeting the Lord of Demons traveling incognito, and either avoiding a dark bargain or entering into one to their ultimate doom.  All of the stories suggest that Astaroth, while evil, holds to a personal code that he cannot or will not break.

General Physical Condition

Astaroth appears as a tall humanoid in a all-covering black robe and hood.  The parts of his hands that are exposed are encased in armored gloves.  The hood he wears is so deep as to conceal his face.  When traveling, Astaroth apparently takes the form of the most common Heritage for the region, but always looking a little "off" - either his cloak blows in a breeze that isn't there, or there is a dark cast to his complexion, etc.  Astaroth, according to stories, always takes the form of a male.
