Demeerk

Demeerk is a city in the north-eastern part of Forstai. To the east of Demeerk are the Mandrake Mountains, which separate the Lands of Forstai from the Kingdom of Peke.   Demeerk is the largest city of Forstai, numbering about 50,000 people. It is a center for trade, and the location of many temples. While there are centers of light in this city, such as the Temple of Shakari, it also contains many shadowy activities. If there is a conspiracy being formed, it probably is taking place in one of the many of the back alleys and guilds within its walls.   While Demeerk plays a central role within Forstai, it is largely a lawless place. The concerns of the authorities, which is whatever band of brigands has currently taken power, is mainly to tax the transactions of the central plaza, the marketplace where countless clans and races go to trade. The rest of the city, the guilds, temples and neighborhoods, are left to secure themselves as best they can.   Hundreds of years before, Demeerk was known as the "City of Reklaw", and was the capital of the Kingdom of Reklaw. It was the great western kingdom, and at one point was more prosperous than Peke, the kingdom to the west of the Mandrake Mountains. At that time, the kingdom of Reklaw stretched more than 200 miles, and included an outpost on on the sea known as Bedorsk. With the collapse of the Reklawian kingdom, Bedorsk reverted its loyalties back to the kingdom of Peke.
