Guide to Landärian Speech

Involved Terms

These are some involved terms that will often appear in the speech of the average Landärian, though more often in Lantria (the northernmost continent of the Old World.

MERTAL -- Angry or upset, as in "He makes me mertal!"
MERTALOUS -- (of a place) Angry mood, as in "It's mertalous in here."
VECTAD -- A nonsense word for "Astonishing!" or "I'm astonished!"
THE POWER (capitalized) -- Divinely granted magical abilities or powers
HEAT-TONGUES -- People who habitually deliver impressively offensive words, usually due to a quick temper
KAELTH -- Glad, pleasent, or heartwarming, as in "That feast was right kaelth!"

Topics of Discussion

These are certain common topics that are more complicated, to show how nuanced certain aspects of Landärian speech can be.

Natives: The most widespread term for natives is "savage". Another, more common among the natives' sympathizers, is "prelander". Another is the "non-sentients". This word sends an incorrect message; natives are, in fact, quite sentient. This word comes from the desire to insult the natives as harshly as possible.
Colonists: These particular terms are, well, difficult. This is because many of the distinctive lines between them have been blurred. For example, "settler" is sort of in between politeness and casuality, as it would be in real life. The word "colonizer", on the other hand, is quite polite in Landäria. These terms, despite their differences, are often used interchangeably.
But, I can give you a few terms. "Settler" you already know about. It is sort of more polite(ish). The term "Calirir", however, is more jocular among-the-lads talk, not to be used around priests, parents, or disapproving relatives.
Outside of noblespeak (which I'll cover in a seperate article), "colonizer" is often blurred with "colonial", even through their ditinctive separations. "Colonist" is polite, and can mean any sort of colonist. "Colonial", on the other hand, is far more casual, and means very speciffically the middle class and peasantry.
