The Nightwood

Warning! The Nightwood is considered to be an extremely dangerous area. Interacting with it comes with fatal risks, not just for trespassers but also other civilians. As such, access is not allowed without permission. Anyone who ventures there without permission, is in violation of Martial Law. Violators will be prosecuted for endangerment of society.

The Nightwood is a forest with a canopy that blocks over 98% of all light. As such, even with Ymir's eternal daylight, the place is stuck in an everlasting night. Any travel there require perception-enhancing technology. Due to the thickness of the canopy, it is also near-impossible to provide any kind of air support. Given the presence of a relative large number of Ursa Major groups, this essentially makes the place a deathtrap even for the well-prepared.   Theoretically, eliminating the Ursa Major population would allow for a so-called slow burn conquering. However, this could have a massive impact on the ecosystem. So given how the only way to properly survive there, is not considered to be acceptable, entering the Nightwood without permission is forbidden and punishable by Martial Law.   Another reason not to enter the Nightwood, is that it is advised by the Science Department that the local wildlife must not learn how to deal with firearms. This is also why any injured predator must always be taken down, no matter what. If the local animal populations learn how to circumvent weapons, it would make them a large threat. Since there is no way to properly supervise the Nightwood, with even communication signals not working well through its canopy, it would not be possible to realise an attack has failed and requires active intervention.   Again. Do not, under any circumstances, enter the Nightwood. Studying it can be done from a distance. There must be no provocation, as there already are plenty of cases of local wildlife venturing forth and leaving the Nightwood. If they were to be provoked, it is unknown what the consequences would be.
