Boy A > Come on, you've got this, █████. We're almost at the top.
Boy B > Easy for you to say! Your ankle still works! Just. Let me focus. Recover my breath.
Boy A > We need to hurry! Quick!
Girl A > Ssssh, quiet! Was that Jack?
In the silence, a Corvus warning call can be heard. The children remain mostly silent, except for inaudible whispers. The shaky camera footage turns away from the cliff-side and focuses on a faint silhouette moving through undergrowth nearby. Over a minute after the silhouette is gone, another Corvus call can be heard and the children release breaths of relief.
Boy B > Okay, that was enough of a break. Thanks, Jack! Let's see if I can manage now.
— Scribe 2.0, anonymised record of The Lost Four
Jackeline the Raven is a Corvus specimen that became famous in
YY 29 due to her involvement in the rescue of The Lost Four, a group of
Homesteader teenagers who were hunting when a landslide caught them and sent them into a rapid. The landslide had been caused by ongoing heavy rain, which also got in the way of attempts to find them.
The group suffered various injuries, including ones that made it hard for them to travel fast. The rapid river also had deposited them far from their original route and even further from semi-civilization. It also had separated them from most of their gear. Though they did manage to patch up their injuries, they still found themselves low on supplies. Their Scribe gear also had been damaged, leaving only one semi-functional camera that recorded their trip back.
During their trip back, the four found themselves in repeated contact with a specific Corvus. As they began to realise, they nicknamed the specimen Jack, after the name Jackdaws. Only later did they find out that Jack was actually a girl, so then she was renamed to Jackeline. At first Jack kept an eye out, then showed them food and proper shelter spots. As their familiarity grew, Jackeline started steering the four, not only warning them of possible threats, but also showing them possible routes to take.
With the help of Jackeline, the group made it back safely, finally being spotted by a search party six days after they went missing. Jackeline stuck around for a bit and kept an eye out, at which point a
Defender engaged her and presented her with snacks as a form of gratitude. The four did the same, as did many others. Later on, the four found themselves visited by Jackeline at times, always providing her with gifts. In turn, Jackeline gave them the same berries as she had first led them to during their trip.
Over time, Jackeline began to spend more time with Homesteaders, bringing an entire flock with her. She is easily recognised and always receives gratitude which she gladly accepts. However, the flock makes sure to keep up their own food gathering, possibly to avoid overly depending on human kindness.
