Cool Suit

  The Cool Suits were a bodysuit originally designed to help with stealthy scouting in the wilderness. A complex cooling system was meant to effectively hide the excess temperature of the user, so that no creatures could detect the wearer with thermographic vision. And sure, there was a limited use to the suits, but most predators on Ymir turned out not to be depending on such vision. This meant there was no point in using the suits out there, so they were thrown into storage.   But then the Pillagers managed to get their hands on them. Some deserters stole a supply and then used the suits to avoid detection. They had already figured out that Defender drone patrols heavily depended on thermographic vision when dealing with dense tree canopies, so finding out about the Cool Suits was a golden opportunity for them. The theft ended up turning what was meant to be a helpful tool for the Defenders, into an effective counter-measure against them.   Ironically, the same applies to the Pillagers. They too depend on thermographic detection methods to see their enemies, us, coming. As such, the Cool Suits are now both their strength and their weakness. Nevertheless, actual usage of Cool Suits is heavily restricted, to avoid the risk of the Pillagers getting even more. And while there are in fact colluders that provide them with materials, the Pillagers are slowly starting to run out of fully functioning suits.   That hasn't stopped them from repairing their old ones, and making their own. However, they lack the devices and the know-how to make them at the same quality. This is evident in how over time, drone patrols have been managing to spot more and more of them. This fact is still kept on the down-low, so that the Pillagers do not get to learn from their mistakes. Any advantage we can get, we need to keep.
