Euvurcrest Bard's College

Small Beginnings

The Euvurcrest Bard's College originated as a guild of poets and literature enthusiasts in 1898 NG, serving as a cultural keystone and indicator of a new period of enlightenment for the people of Eldurgrund. Many of its initial members were retired monks of the Eldursteries, tutors for royal pupils, and Griots deciding to settle down. Without a formal teaching facility for decades, its members utilized open spaces on the plate and temples for discussions.    Its founding members were motivated by a sense of frustration regarding the nation's robust historical and contemporary records. Eldurgrund possessed the world's most scrutinous records since the unfortunate destruction of Dumont's encyclopedias, yet the repository of information was roughly 200 miles away from the nation's most populous center. The information went largely untouched and unappreciated unless the governy had found some financial or military benefit therein, yet the Eldursteries' stone tablets could only be temporarily borrowed by the common man, and removal from the premises required an accompanying monk to reside over its safety. Even with such strict principles, the existence of the Eldursteries had long dissuaded the creation of other scholarly organizations, which would clearly pale in comparison to the ancient monastery.    Feeling that Euvurcrest was in dire need of central scholarship, the founding members began lecturing and debating in a public forum, allowing anyone curious enough about literature and its applications to join their ranks. Certainly, the application of popular fiction and music improved the guild's broad appeal in its dire formation years. After decades of growth and a shift to admission payments, the Bard's College of Euvurcrest became one of the world's first scholarly organizations with a dedicated campus. While the Bard's College is certainly a success story, many still besmirch its accomplishments in the face of the Eldursteries.

Scholarly Denominations

The Euvurcrest Bard's College, while starting as a school of literature and music, eventually grew into an organization to develop the most renowned fields of education. Specifically, the Bard's College produces plenty of doctors and lawyers (most of which are educated in the methods of old Augur's End and Kala). Less common fields include historical literature, theology, astronomy, and an assortment of rhetoric-based fields.
While still lacking the practical knowledge of some Rembrandts of the Rhetory Sanctum, the young botany program has begun flourishing thanks to the external expertise of Rembrandt Armonis (ca. 1960 NG). Thanks to the program's recent growth, the understanding of Elduri plantlife has been realized and prior superstition has given way to real science (particularly as Armonis was allowed to experiment on wounded soldiers during The Ghei Wyl Incursions).   While previously outsourced to experienced (yet foreign) scholars, Eldurgrund has begun acclimating to utilizing its own botanists for royal medical concerns, which has saved the governy a substantial amount of gold.
This is the middle column.
Law, while previously an abstract field in Eldurgrund's purview, has grown into a more laborious job as the laws themselves have shifted. While Kala was the first nation to develop a renowned field of criminal justice based on argumentation, rhetoric, and precedent, it has slowly grown to impact Eldurgrund. Initially present in Augur's End due to Archduke Stone-Grower's liberal political views, the unique political system has slowly permeated Euvurcrest (due to their historical and imperial connections with the border city).   Trials of precedent have become evermore common as lordships and the governy look toward history to justify their actions. Precedent has recently become a cornerstone in the governor's court, meaning no one can
Theology has become a field rife with discussion as the Augury has begun strictly enforcing their religious laws upon Eldurgrund (ca. 1910 NG). Some work has been done to connect the field with the planes discipline of the Eldursteries, with hopes of directly understanding theological history through the gods themselves, yet such particular work requires availability from the Eldursteries.   Astronomy has grown as the Augury has developed a heightened curiosity about accurate calendars and navigation (while Eldurgrund wishes to accurately predict the shift of seasons for agriculture). The identification and discovery of objects in the sky has already enchanted the minds of mortals for millennia, and discussions of each celestial body's purpose have attracted many scholars from abroad.

Structure

With student-funded programs, the Bard's College has developed a central campus and formal positions for its members.
