Session 5

This chapter opened with Kalydin calling forth Gerard's sin of greed. As the smoke poured from Gerard's mouth and took the form of a terrifying monster, with a lion's head and two human faces, it began to dissipate and take material form. From Gerard's mouth sprouted a thick, writhing worm while Gerard howled in pain. The creatures claws took the form of imps that flitted around the room.   Our heroes sprung into action, with Liaden O'Legal quickly identifying the creatures as demons born from Gerard's sin. The fight dragged on, as both our heroes and the demons brought forth struggled to fight in the cramped room of the priory. After a long and arduous battle, Sam Calas struck the final blow, laying low the worm demon but not before it consumed Gerard.   Shortly after the combat was concluded, Arthis and his priests ran in to ask what happened. Brief words were exchanged as Arthis's expression changed as he instructed the party to rest and that he would help them recover in the morning.   The following morning, Sam met with Arthis as per his instructions during their confrontation with the undead in the priory garden. Sam arrived at Arthis's office where he was finishing a letter and handing it to his adjutant. His conversation with Sam begun with Arthis removing the ghoul fever from his system. Sam was asked of his past and confirmed that he had, in fact, died before. Arthis identified Sam as one of Death's Marked, a being who is given anther chance at life by Death. In exchange, the mortal must complete a task for Death after which, they will die.   While Sam was initially taken aback by this, he seemed to take it quite well. Arthis then informed Sam that he would be stepping down as the Mayor of Wrain's Hall and that the party's reward for their deeds would be organised immediately. Arthis asked Sam to accompany him to the priory vault to retrieve their reward. Sam asked about the undead that they'd encountered, to which Arthis assured him; now that he's resigned as mayor, he can devote his full attention to eliminating the undead from Wrain's Hall and finding their source. He lead Sam into the vault and gestured to several bags worth of equipment, as well as a sword held in the hands of a statue. The statue's hands shifted as the sword was removed from its grip, and the sword was relinquished to Sam as a symbol of Death itself.   As Arthis handed Sam the blade, he asked Sam to watch out for Kalydin, as he did not trust the angel that accompanied him. According to Arthis, the angel bore no mark of the deity it served. This, in the words of the prior, was highly irregular and struck him as strange. He had never read or heard of an angel that had no allegiance, and thus spoke of his misgivings.   As Sam returned to his companions, he laid out the rewards which were divided evenly amongst our heroes who began to notice something peculiar going on outside as townsfolk began to group at the base of the priory. Cracking open the window and listening carefully, the party overheard Arthis publicly step down from office and extend the lock-down due to "unforeseen circumstances that will be investigated immediately." The party, concerned that they would be stuck in Wrain's Hall spoke with Arthis, who thanked them for their work and had his adjutant write up papers to allow them through the gate to the outside world. Having concluded their business in Wrain's Hall, with their first package delivered, our heroes set off on the road again making their way back to M'orn.
