Akoran Waking and Slumbering
The continent of Akora is famous for it's hunting culture and its annual competition between hunting teams. The reason for the latter, is the Akoran Waking Season, named so because during this half of the year, the land seems to be, quite literally, alive and moving. Many scholars are fascinated by this phenomenon, with some even migrating to Akora specifically for the opportunity to study it.
All academic writing on the subject has explored the potential that magic is involved, though such discourse always ends in debate as to what the nature of such magic is. Most scholars who research these possibilities focus on one area (Primal, Divine, etc.) and have bitter rivalries with scholars who research the other magical natures.
Manifestation
Akora has two seasons, its people call them the waking and slumbering. The hunters dare not enter the Akoran wilderness during the waking, any time a hunter has entered, they haven't been seen until their body is found during the next slumbering season. Not only does the land shift and change, making no map of Akora accurate for long enough to be mass published but the waking season also causes odd mutations in the creatures that dwell within its wilderness. There have been tales of wolves that have grown wings, and spiders capable of breathing fire.
Once the waking season ends, the slumbering begins and Akora returns to its restful state. During this time, hunting teams will go on hunts for a variety of reasons. While some might hunt for the sport, most take contracts from researchers of some form or another. The Winner of the annual Akoran Games often receives the greatest number of requests, and can essentially pick and choose their hunts for the remainder of the year. The other teams often have to barter prices in hopes of receiving work. There is no shortage of work, but some hunts are likely safer than others.
Localization
This waking phenomenon has been recorded over several years, each time shifting the landmass. It doesn't seem to effect the Akoran coast-line, though it does shift mountains, forests and biomes alike. Many hunters are hired specifically to remap the environment at the beginning of the year's slumbering season, in an attempt to improve the success rate of Akora's hunting teams.
