The Blade Reefs
So named for their position just east of the Scythe, the Blade Reefs are the most diverse habitat in all of Kytheria, overfllowing with fish, mollusks, coral, plant life, and dolphins. The geography of the Reef itself makes fishing expeditions treacherous and also serves to block invasions from the open sea to the east. The coral structures have acquired a spiritual significance for many of the inhabitants in this part of the Scythe, and while small-scale fishing and trapping is done here (any but the most shallow drafts risk foundering) it's customary to be buried in the reef is well, so that the bodies of the deceased may give back to the fish.
Some priests have even been granted the ability to breathe underwater by their great sea goddess, a terrifying figure resembling a kraken. Their mythos even places the sea mother above Kytheria herself, though ardent members of either faith rarely meet face-to-face, meaning that little conflict has occurred. The reef itself is studied not only for its diversity but also for the cycles within cycles perpetuated beneath the waves; the strange water priests have been swimming these depths for thousands of years, and very little has changed substantially, even though as the cycles grind on everything is always changing.
The dolphin species are perhaps the most remarkable facet of these reefs, as there are several types of dolphins found nowhere else in the world. The sea is largely unexplored over much of Kytheria, but any fisherman or resident of the coast from any other part of the world would find that the vast majority of the life here would be new to them. Rumors of sea dragons persist, though none have been reliably seen in recorded history. If the sea priests know otherwise, they say nothing on the matter.
