Igyn, Mother Nature

I am the goddess of the natural cycle. The beginning and the end of all living things; all must one day come to an end.

Materian Guardian

Igyn is the embodiment of the natural cycle and the goddess of Materian nature and wildlife. She watches over all of it from her domain known as the Garden of Materia. Igyn seeks the protection and sanctity of Materian nature, particularly the holiness of death and the end of life, and is a prominent figure within the religion called the Order of the Seven.   Her true origins are unknown. Some think nature itself created her as a guardian, though many believe she was a goddess among the many others during a time before Brinomir even existed in a realm called the Cosma. Here, all the gods lived in right obedience to an all-powerful being named the Cosmigod until one god, the Betrayer coveted that power and sewed evil among the others.   This evil seeped into all the gods, including Igyn, and forced the Cosmigod to banish everyone from the Cosma and out into the universe which He formed by hand. This was the time of The Great Divergence, and this was the time when Igyn's mythology began.

Saga of Terrarune

Her earliest myth is recorded during the year 20,682 PC when the first world of Materia came into being and Materian nature first existed. This world was called Terrarune. Before this point, Igyn was a goddess with no domain as there was no nature before the first world formed itself.   After it was created, Igyn visited its landscape and greatly enjoyed the green grass, tall trees, and clean rivers. Most of all, she is described to have grown infatuated with a baby rabbit that approached her and marveled at the simple essence of such a creature.   But, overtime these things withered and died, including the rabbit, which hurt Igyn. However, as new plants and new rabbits grew to replace what had once been lost, she became complacent to this kind of natural law that said things must one day leave so that things which are new may take their place.   Then, in the year 18,987 PC, The Cosmic War began and Terrarune, its mortals, and its nature were annihilated. Enraged by such atrocities that she deemed unnatural and sinful, Igyn joined in the incessant fighting not to achieve power, but to protect nature and its law of the numerous worlds which came after Terrarune.

The Bear and the Plant

In the present day, far after the Cosmic War had ended, Igyn dwells amid her garden inside the Evergrown Jungle which is found in the fey plane of Dobbotope. She dwells in this plane under the watchful eye of Moroko, the elven god of Dobbotope, as a magnificently beautiful and equally terrifying mountain of plants.
This came as a result of a mutually beneficial pact that the two forged because of their similar interests in maintaining the natural beauty of things. This has since often created confusion along the fringe of Igyn's garden as the wildlife and nature of the fey intermix with Mother Nature's.   Despite her residence inside Dobbotope and outside Materia, Igyn remains stalwart in her convictions to protect and preserve the Materian natural cycle, even as Kustaanos remains as the last world in existence.   Aiding her in these efforts is her human champion, Paidrag MacArdal, whose oath to her is unbreakable and
who watches over a place called the Bramble Forest. He claims that by her prophetic words, all the rest of nature in Materia will fall before that forest withers.

Igyn and the Order of the Seven

The Order of the Seven is still a minor religion among communities in Kustaanos, although it was most prominent during the Pre-Cataclysm among the dwarven race, particularly from 4,000 PC and onward when Kustaanos was made. The order worships seven distinct gods equally thinking them siblings, believing each represents a major virtue to a good life.   In Igyn's case, she is represented among her followers in reference to the virtue of patience, because of her continued and unfettered work to protect her domain over the course of many millennias.   Individuals who do not hold to this religious belief and follow Igyn alone are often hermits who live by themselves far away from any cities. They often pray to the land to provide for them the food and tools they need to live.   The signature symbol of someone who professes faith to Igyn, Mother Nature is a necklace made out of twigs and bent sticks, decorated in flowers, leaves, and anything the wearer chooses to adorn it with. Some druid circles like those in Heiwa require more expensive herbs and plants in the belief it makes a symbol of proper respect to Mother Nature.

To you who wants life and peace, this sanctuary do I offer. But, to you who seek only the desecration of that which Mother Nature has hallowed, to you be destruction greater than anything you'll ever commit.

Adventures with Igyn

When running a D&D 5E campaign as a character that has any affiliation with Igyn, it is important to understand the information below and know what your character is working towards, such as one of the listed boons of Igyn.

Boon: Alpha Wild Shape

This is a common boon granted by Igyn to her champion followers. While you possess this boon, you can use a bonus action to transform into any beast or plant with a challenge rating of 9 or lower. You stay in this form for as long as you wish, or until you dismiss it as a bonus action, or until you fall unconscious, drop to 0 hit points, or die.   This boon follows the same rules as the Wild Shape feature explained in the Druid's Class Features.   Once you use this, you cannot do so again until after finishing a long rest.

Boon: Nature's Champion

This is a common boon granted by Igyn to her champion followers. While you possess this boon, you gain proficiency in the following skills: Nature, Survival, and Animal Handling. If you are already proficient in one or more of these skills, you instead gain expertise in that skill. You can also cast speak with animals and speak with plants at will, and all beasts and plants regard you as a friendly creature unless your actions otherwise provoke them.

Boon: Perfect Health

This is a common boon granted by Igyn to her champion followers. While you possess this boon, you are immune to all diseases and being poisoned, have immunity against poison damage, and you have advantage on Constitution saving throws.

Druid Circles

Mystics and sages among druids act to embody the protective figure that Igyn is and maintain more than the beauty of a forest but the natural cycle of life. But, when her protection turns to wrath, it is not uncommon for her druids to do the same. Because of this, she often shares a connection with two circles:   The circle of land, and the circle of the shepherd.   The circle of land focuses on drawing power from the land around them. But far above that, it pleads for the protection of that power as well. A druid of this circle who takes from this power is expected to give it back, or something else in return.   The circle of the shepherd does more than take responsibility for wildlife and oversee their protection, they live to harmonize with them and live as one. In the trial when ninety-nine sheep are free and one is being washed away, the shepherd will risk everything to get that one back.

Cleric Domains

Those who seek to bring the beauty of Igyn's domain to the light of civilized society find peace living in a home crafted from the lumber of a tree as they give it genuine thanks and respect. Even so, most followers choose to rebuke instead and take to a nomad's life, appalled at the constant use of poaching, chopping, and disrespect of everything around them. For this reason, Igyn shares commonality with two domains:   Nature and order.   The nature domain hallows every inch of the natural earth and takes active roles to maintain that truth. And when it is broken, those of this domain will accept to suffer through great trials to vanquish the monstrosities that despoil the land.   The order domain represents law and stability. It is the promise to abide by authority and, at its simplest roots, follow rules. In many cultures, it also emphasizes the priority for justice to those who have been victimized in some way.

Paladin Oaths

Paladins are more than just a shining white knight for good or a horror from hell for evil. Such paladins are not focused so much on the ends of those spectrums as they are what happens in between, and paladins of Igyn are devoted to the preservation of nature and its memory above all else. A paladin under Igyn shares in the following oath:   Oath of the ancients.   Those under the oath of ancients love the beautiful and life-giving things of the world and seek to ensure it isn't tampered with. It is the ideal of honor, courage, and justice not for the sake of the life, but for the sake of the natural cycle of it.

The most beautiful thing in Dobbotope is a garden not even the Court Lord made.
