The History as known

Kurra has been Saved.
That's what everyone says at least.
A very long time ago there was The Calamity. This event that very few people can remember almost destroyed this world. In the world's dying hours a group of Heroes stepped up and saved the world as we know it. These five adventurers, bound by fate, fought the end of the world and immortalized themselves to the peoples of Kurra.   In the aftermath they went their separate ways and the world continued on.   But, The Calamity had other effects on the world that these heroes could not prevent.   The various Gods of the world determined that The Calamity was going to destroy the world and left. They've never returned. This has led to worship of the Heroes of old as the peoples of Kurra seek something to believe in. During the mass exodus of Divinity a large amount of Dragons seemingly also left the World. This has led to the sighting of a Dragon to be exceedingly rare. Even Dragonborn are far rarer than other peoples on Kurra. Most of them seem to live on the floating landmasses of the world which has unfortunately given the entire race a stereotypical view as snobs and supremacists to other peoples. Magic has also been affected by the loss of the Gods. Many a spell-caster found themselves with diminished or no power. In the intervening years, Magic has become accessible in many ways and most casters don't report any issues other than the phenomenon known as the Blue Voice.   The time since The Calamity is unknown due to a strange phenomenon known as The White Out. This is a time period that everyone has simply forgotten. Some living beings from the era are still around on Kurra and they describe the time as a dream they have brief flashes of.   Travel to other planes from Kurra became difficult if not impossible. This trapped many Elementals, Fae, and Hellsborn creatures in the world, leading to an abundance of Tieflings, Genasi, and Faeblessed peoples in the world.   The underground regions of the world were completely flooded. This has made the underground the home of the Nether Tritons and basically no one else. The Dark Elves and Driders climbed from these rising waters and now live on the surface. The Drow tend to live in mountains where caves can be found that somewhat resemble their subterranean homes of old. Those that don't take up residence in the Crater Sea living on canopied barges. These "Night Ships" still act as remnants of the old Matronate houses, constantly at war with one another and scheming. The Driders adapted to the surface chiefly by becoming smaller. Their hulking forms left behind in favor of more agile and lithe forms that can live in a number of places. These people now populate the entirety of Kurra and call themselves the Arachne.   In the years since The Calamity the Vranikan Empire has risen into prominence as the largest power in Kurra. Year after year the territory controlled by Vranik grows and seemingly nothing can stop their growth. Any power that has risen against them is promptly and utterly defeated. Battles against the Vranikan Empire always end the same way, with the opposing army reduced to either nothing or statues standing in a field.
