Kuraye
Kuraye is from Noongar for tomorrow, kura, and today, yeye. It is a world based in a future where Indigenous voices are heeded and the destruction of the land is abated. It specifically takes place in a West-Australian landscape but with consultation of indigenous voices, its principles could be applied anywhere.
Kuraye is a world where climate change denial could no longer exist. Some rich elite abandoned the Earth, using their resources to finance a last ditch attempt to find another suitably habitable planet. Their colonisation being taken elsewhere is welcomed by the rest of us, those who remained loyal to the land or could not afford any other option. On Earth, changes had to be made. Not everyone was willing to compromise their consumeristic or Western lifestyles, but most did. There were no other options. Large corporations, cities and governments died out. Technology had to be adjusted to lighten the load on the land, instead of gouging it. But we did it. Years on, humanity has adapted to new patterns and the world is recovering.
There are many different people and views in Kuraye, and this wonderful diversity is recognised and appreciated. The People, who have combined the wisdom of Indigenous knowledge with the abilities of modern technology, wander the land and rehabilitate it. 'Stalk Cities', as they are affectionately called, repurpose technology from a society built on advanced stilts, so as to lighten the load on the earth. Many other societies have been wrought from ingenuity and the cultural traditions of global ancestors. As the Earth thrives, so do we.
