Canni
Canni is a large town populated by humans and a small subset of Carians, and the main setting. It has approximately 998,000 sentients living in it. 'Cannister', as downtown urbanites lovingly or sarcastically call it, is located close to Kenia's mountains. Kenia, the country it adheres to, is located on the continent Floowo.
It was started in 1830 by a 34-year-old man named Denzin Wells and a group of twenty people from a neighboring town called Roccer. Its current mayor is Andren Retts, a distant descendant of Denzin Wells. It's considered more important than most other Kenian towns because of its size, culture, and tourism.
It is led by the Governmental Association of Canni. Its language is Jener because of Kenia officializing it.
88% are human, while 12% are Carian, who are sentient vehicles with powers. However, the Carian population is rising from their reproductive nature. Most Cannis are native to Canni, though more are moving to it, especially Carians looking for a town or city that accepts them.
Its design resembles a early-2000s American suburb, and for the central zone, a typical early-2000s American city, but very tiny.
Canni has what functions as a central mini-city/tourist area, a highly-social area with high-rise workplaces, lots of social hubs or clubs of various kinds, attractions, gift shops, shopping spaces, cobblestone sidewalks and roads, one-story apartments, and a huge mall on the edge. This is the location for headquarters of various companies from Canni and surrounding smaller towns or cities. It has seven major neighborhoods and two very small ones. Many of Wells' descendants live here, working in civil services or just average people. The unique culture here is fast-paced, focused on money, often romanticized, and is a hub of music and art.
There is one subsection located next to the city for government (both local and national), emergency services, special police, and other medical services. There is no notable culture, as there is little housing, and that's for special police on weekdays, and a small hotel for Kenian politicians or more-official visitors.
The rest of it is suburbs, where most of the population lives. Its known for its expansive neighborhoods, gated communities, excellent cafes and local stores. Andren Retts lives in the suburbs, a small, unspecified gated community for privacy. The culture is too diverse to describe.
There are two major areas where Carians live, often poorer suburb areas. They are colloquially called 'Carian Zones' or 'Nature-road zones'. Outside Canni, called derogatory nicknames, which most Cannis hate. Housing is safe enough, although not ideal. Police have a harder time getting to them because of poor road maintenance by the government. Carians have their own, communal way of fixing the roads, often involving various supernatural powers, rocks, and concrete- and the police are very much grateful for that! Until it involves lava or whatever very dangerous things. There is lots of grass in the neighborhoods, so children play among the grass instead of the small insides of the houses. The culture here is self-sufficient, close-knit, and outdoorsy. They enjoy making art.
My protagonist, Joshia Deeni, moves here. He moves to an urban apartment, getting along and talking with his neighbors. He's originally from Giffera, a smaller town very close to Canni. Joshia makes friends with two Carians around his age who live nearby (one eighteen, the other twenty-one years old).
