Bibliostone
Adventurers often find strange objects of unknown use in ancient ruins around the world. One of the most ubiquitous tokens of the ancient world is the bibliostone. At first glance, it looks like a gemstone cut into the shape of a thin bar. However, one side features small strips of metal on the end. Ancient runes are etched into the other side. There are many types of bibliostone, with most being made of quartz. The first to be discovered was made of citrine and was labeled War. When the Identify spell was cast upon it, the following description was returned:
This device, primarily composed of citrine quartz with some metallic components, is an archival tool known as a “bibliostone”. It contains information in the form of electromagnetic charges, but the machine used to read said information no longer exists. The runes etched upon the surface of the stone are of an extinct language called Alexandrian. It reads: “War”.Other types of bibliostones discovered thus far include:
- "Love" (rose quartz)
- "Arcana" (amethyst)
- "Law" (white quartz)
Access & Availability
It is unknown how commonplace bibliostones were to the Ancients, but the fact that quartz was used rather than diamonds or other rare gemstones suggests they were relatively common.
Discovery
Adventurers on the Sisters began exploring ancient ruins in the mid-fourth century of the Age of Heroes. For decades, the machina found within proved too advanced and too hostile for any significant discoveries to take place. It wasn't until 19 Summerdark, 399 VT that a group of adventurers, sponsored by Aldwyn Silverbloom, found a ruin beneath the then-site of the Gryphonhall Library. Unfortunately, its safety relative to other ruins is credited to the fact that this one was mostly empty. However, the adventurers found a bibliostone of war inside.
