History

The Dresnids were at one time thought to have been united under the great city of Dresna in the middle of the aptly named Dresnid Desert, however there is no contemporary evidence of this. The vast majority of Dresnid history has been spent warring between one-another in attempts for power, land, and loot - for the Dresnid Desert is rich in oases and minerals. Each tribe has individually striven towards their own mining operations and livestock farming, while simultaneously dealing raids to one-another. The Dresnids have also proven keen on remaining in their desert region and rarely venture to conquer land near the coasts.   Aside from raiding themselves, Dresnids also conducted countless habitual raiding against the neighboring cultures of the Sinans, Knori, Apolonians, and Espidonians. This excessive harassment resulted in the construction of Tri-Kastron, a formidable castle manned by a combined force of Knori, Sinan, and Espidonian soldiers, in 260 AR to oppose the Dresnids. However in 334 AR the Aljerem Dresnids successfully besieged and seized the castle. It was only recovered in 391 AR by the Makan Empire after it had invaded along the coasts of Barakon. (In 840 AR, the castle Nova Kastron was created in honor of Tri-Kastron's legacy, though was upheld by the only surviving state at the time - Knoros)   In the late 600s/ early 700s, the Daahken Dresnid clan, led by their Khan Reijann Khogal, traversed the Dan Verig Mountains which often blocked Dresnid contact to the east. On the other side of those mountains, the Daahkens founded a Dresnid city called Nadhour, and after a few more years of nomadic migration about the region, they began to besiege and invade most of the land throughout eastern Barakon. By the end of the 700s AR the Dresnids had completely dismantled the Morosian domination on Eastern Barakon, and were only halted when they attempted to besiege the coastal stronghold of Akrainus.   Ever since the Daahken invasions, Dresnid influence has grown throughout the entirety Barakon, leaving only the coastline cities truly untouched.

Traditions

Dresnids conduct many rituals in order to ensure good livestock harvests, mineral finds, rain, and recovery from illness. The Dresnid religion is deeply entrenched in the belief of rituals to provoke the favor of the gods and the winds of fortune. In one way or anther, sand if often ingained into rituals, stories, and the general belief/solutions to problems.   However, for a large portion of Dresnids, Ilsueism has become the preferred belief over The Pantheon of Sand. For these converted Dresnids, rituals still serve a purpose, but there are now less integrations of sand and the elements, and more focus towards the stars above.
