Basic Information
Anatomy
Giant Snappers are known for their gargantuan size and their fearsome tusked maw that is large enough to swallow a ship whole - and more than capable of breaking one in half in a single bite. The shell is extremely tough and it has enormous horn-like spikes.
Growth Rate & Stages
Giant Snappers grow very quickly through their first two stages, and they begin life rather small.
- Hatchlings are only about the size of a dwarf, but within a few weeks they grow out of that stage
- Juveniles range in size from about 6' to 12' in size; it takes them about 6 months to transition from the smaller end to the larger end
- Young adult Giant Snappers range from 12' to 50' in length; they spend 4 to 6 years in this life stage
- Adult Giant Snappers range from 50' long to 100' long; this stage lasts 100 to 150 years
- Ancient Giant Snappers are up to 1000' long; they live up to 500 more years once they reach this stage
Ecology and Habitats
Giant Snappers can generally be found anywhere there is both water and dry land that is large enough for their size. Giant Snappers breathe air, but can hold their breath for an incredibly long time. If they find themselves in ecosystems with all four seasons, they have been known to hibernate underwater for the entire duration of the cold months by slowing their heart rate and metabolism to a near standstill. (This also happens to be when they are at their most vulnerable.)
Depends on the life stage; size ranges from 4' long to 1000' long.
