Giantish

Giants seem to have only survived the first age in Thovan, where they became the dominant power after the fall of Golmara. Consequently, their various dialects coalesced into a single, centralized language.

Phonology

Vowels:
i ü w u
e oe o
ae a
NB: ü = high, front, rounded; w = /ʊ/; oe = mid, front, rounded; ae = /æ/   Consonants:
p t k q
f th s ş
m n ng
r
l ll
w (w)
NB: when adjacent to other consonants, nasals are denasalized and written as their voiced plosive counterpart; consonants exhibit anticipatory voicing assimilation with other consonants.

Morphology

şa-/ş- = nominal prefix -qak = verbal suffix (> Old Tongue "-ha" completed aspect)

Phonetics

Historical Sound Changes:
  • dh > ll
  • No onsetless syllables. /q/ added before mid & low back vowels, /k/ before high back vowels, and /p/ before front vowels.
  • a > ae before labials and coronals
  • word final vowels: delete after sonorant, otherwise add coda (t for front vowels, k for back)
  • Elide vowels before voiced liquids
  • i > ü before labial
  • e > oe before labial
