Dark King

The Dark King is the epithet for the ancient rival of the Pale Queen. More a legend than an actual entity, folk stories retelling his wanton acts of destruction persist to this day. According to the Legends, he died during the mythical event known as the Kataroth. The Legion claim to be his servants and that they are the heralds for their King's prophesied resurrection. It is claimed that he developed the art of Sorcery and that all sorcerers are unknowingly his pawns. According to some legends, the Dark King's name is Tarek. He was a star who fell to Koru (or came to Koru with his wife, the Pale Queen, after she created it). Akaian scholars disagreed whether his origin story was the result of a backformation from his name (Old Tongue tar "star" + ek "of/from"). Some believe the name either created the stories or was a result of them. Others believe his name actually derives from taru "high" + ek "of", meaning something like person of a high place (such as a mountain or a royal position).
