Xugnos, The Mad God of Beasts and Chaos
"Long ago, Vurborh, God of Mountains, and Krona, Goddess of Water, created Korsythe when the world was being born. The worldsmiths charged these two with creating a land that would remain hidden from the others until the time was right. Vuborh dragged the mountains out of the earth and Krona filled the land with rivers and surrounded it with sea. Unir, God of Life and Eenta, Goddess of Death then created the many civilized races of the world and populated it with animals. Xugnos the Mad God was then charged with filling the land and waters with dangerous beasts to isolate the land, and he did. Some beasts were much larger than they should have been, and others were far too dangerous for the races of the land. Xugnos did not consider the safety of the land's first inhabitants, he simply created what fancied him..."
Xugnos, the Mad God of Beasts and Chaos, was one of the original gods charged with creating and protecting Korsythe. After the land and waters had been created, and people and animals sent to inhabit the land, Xugnos was tasked with protecting the land. At first he created towering giants to defend the land and monstrous leviathans to dissuade sailors from wandering too close. Eventually, these beasts began killing the civilized peoples of Korsythe with ease, and the other gods demanded he change tactics. He then tried creating smaller beasts, more vicious versions of what people were used to. These soon proved to easily killed by the races of Korsythe, and the gods denounced Xugnos for failing at his task.
Eventually, Xugnos created what we now today know as Beasts: large, fearsome creatures that are filled with a bizarre madness, unlike the regular animals of the land. Some are variants on well-known creatures, while others are entirely new abominations, created in Xugnos's twisted mind to frighten and stalk all living things on Korsythe, foreign or not. The gods finally approved of Xugnos's creations and saw the matter as closed. But Xugnos did not want to keep creating creatures when they were killed off by Korsythe's people. Sure they could procreate, but this was not good enough for Xugnos. He wanted his creations to replace the people of this world, and so he created rifts. These permanent tears in space were fixtures on the land that would allow his influence to spread to the land and his creatures to climb out from beyond. This way he ensured a steady supply of Beasts onto the land. When the other gods found out about this, they had finally had enough of Xugnos, and locked him away. It is said that from his millennia-long sentence, he still pulls the strings on his rifts, controlling which Beasts spawn and where.
