Lady D̪æfhypey, Countess of the Wood

Lady D̪æfhypey , Countess of the Wood and Warden of the Palace of Living Light

Countess D̪æfhypey is one of the most ancient and steadfast Sælfey under Verana’s reign. She rules the sylvan province of D̪erpey, home to the Palace of Living Light, a radiant stronghold woven from sun-infused vines and crystalline bark. She embodies the stern grace of the old Fey courts: luminous, exacting, and merciless toward betrayal.

She is the Warden of the Palace of Lifing Light, which is within D̪erpey, which is her county. Of particular import is a portion of the forest known as the Sacred Groves of D̪erpey. These woods bloom in perfect spirals, with leaves that shimmer with daydreams. It is forbidden to walk them without permission.

Personal history

In the memory of the fey (except, presumably Verana and Tadi), D̪æfhypey has always been. She is the most trusted of Verana's court.

It was Countess D̪æfhypey who caught Iona and Kalpa in the act of trespass and attempted theft. Her famous declaration:

Since you sought the Rosewood Heart, I shall give you a heart of rosewood!
Her judgement was not made in rage but with ceremonial gravity, invoking one of the oldest curses of the Realm of Vigor. She did not destroy them—she bound them to the thing they had defiled. To this day, she considers the matter closed.

Intellectual Characteristics

She is principled and law bound, holding sacred the duties of stewardship, loyalty, and divine beauty.

She views betrayal, especially within the court, as a spiritual and existential crime. Once she has rendered a judgement, there is no appeal.

Morality & Philosophy

Believes in the sanctity of form and balance. She curses only to restore harmony—or to make an example.

Personality Characteristics

Representation & Legacy

Among the Ælfey and other loyal Sælfey, D̪æfhypey is sometimes revered as a semi-divine archetype of balance. Shrines to her are simple: a ring of polished whitewood and a single golden bloom at the center.
