Spooktober 2025: Amiss

The second that i woke up I knew that something was amiss... amiss? Was I the kind of person who said amiss?   Apparently I was, since these are just thoughts in my head, and that was far from the most pressing issue. I had no idea where I was, hell, I had no idea who I was.   Okay, calm down and breathe. Well, breathe slowly, since I was near to hyperventilating from the panic. Deep breaths. Nice.... and.... slow...   There was light at least, and I was clothed, so that was someplace to start, although the clothes were of an unfamiliar style and as soaking wet as the rest of me. Pants with several pouch sewn onto them, a vest with even more pockets than the pants had, and incredibly soft and road-worn boots that must be mine based on how comfy they were. I slid my way off the... bed, no, similar to a bed, but something was amiss about the relationship between the bed and the room. First of all, the bed was not adjacent to a wall, although it was close to the back... no the front of the room. And the bed was up on a raised platform, raising it up slightly above the rest of the... stage? Yes, looking around it was definitely a stage in an amphitheater...   Oh, this is an altar, which makes that discolored section near where my head had been... hrk.... hrk... blegh   As i cleaned myself off with some parchment that was nearby (with symbols that I could not read, and no drawings besides mad scribbles in the margins) I once again looked around. Reliefs in the walls made it clear this was a temple of some sort, and of a religion that practiced human sacri...hrk no, don't think about that. Wait, if this was supposed to be a sacrifice, like was patently obvious then where were those who were going to sacrifice me... for that matter if they were interrupted, why was I left here to wake up? Something was definitely amiss... with all of this.   Next Chapter Spooktober 2025: Chamber
