Athfaenatri (ATH-fay-NA-tree)

"We dance the dance of life because existence is so depressing that you have to do SOMETHING to cope."   ~Medea Vuthakorna, Queen of the Shadar-Kai

Execution

The Athfaenatri refers to the uniquely desperate thrill-seeking practiced by the Shadar-Kai. There is an elven phrase popular with High Elves regarding their Shadowfell cousins; "Shadar-Kai do not worship any gods. They only party." While this is overstating it and defining it too narrowly, it certainly is an understandable stereotype. Shadar-Kai milk every bit of joy, fun, sorrow, and pain that they can out of every experience. The soul-sucking void of their homes demands that they offset the creeping antipathy in this way, and it can lead to antics that come off as frivolous to many.   To humans, the marked energy and restlessness shown by Shadar-Kai is in even starker contrast to other Elvenkind.   The average Shadar-Kai doesn't care what they feel, so long as they feel it deeply.
