The Void
Amongst the many types of poisons used throughout the continent, The Void is one of the crueller kinds. Where others are quicker, this paralytic is slow enough that it’s often used as a means of torture.
Extracted from the seeds of a tree that grows solely along Demarn’s coastline, this rich oily mixture gains its name not for its looks, but for the empty effect it has on its victims.
Symptoms
Those unlucky to consume the seed, or be nicked by a blade coated in the extract, remain conscious but immobile.
Meanwhile, an icy burning runs through their veins and numbness begins in their extremities, spreading up their limbs. This loss of sensation eventually spreads to the core, where it stops the heart. However, it is far more common for victims to suffocate beforehand.
Treatment
Given the nature of the toxin, an antidote that solely reverses The Void's effects is unheard of. However, there have been numerous successes in using the same liquid that tackles various poisons.
A strong spellster who has studied healing can, like most other poisons, nullify the toxin, but only within themselves.
Prognosis
Despite the severity of the poison, survivors are common, provided they receive the antidote in time.
Prevention
With the toxin coming from a seed, farmers who discover the tree growing on their lands seek to uproot and destroy the plant before it has time to fruit. Children who are raised along Demarn's shoreline are taught from a very young age to avoid the berries.
