Rock Biscuits
Whilst Talfaltan ships are largely self-sufficient, the people do trade with landed folk, mostly with the kingdom of Demarn. This way, they can buy goods not found on the seas, with flour being the primary desired agricultural product.
The flour would become what the people call rock biscuits. It’s a simple recipe, consisting of flour, water and salt, which is baked until devoid of moisture. This may seem extreme to those who have never left land, but it is to ensure the biscuits won’t mould before the ship returns to trade with the land once more. Often, this would mean years.
Because the baking process leaves them hard enough to break teeth, they are typically soaked before consuming. Be it in a soup and fish sauce or, in a pinch, plain water.
