Pasties
These rustic hand pies are most common pastry-based item in stalls and bakeries all across Demarn’s cities and towns. They are largely eaten as the main meal amongst field workers, who generally get theirs from whomever tends the farm homestead, and as a staple amongst the army soldiers.
The defining feature of Demarn pasty is the hard and dense shell, made with the local flour. Cooked entirely sealed, a true pasty must be capable of withstanding being lugged about without breaking. The filling is typically a savoury mixture of meat and vegetables. This is often venison or poultry, although there are plenty of vegetable-only variants made from available ingredients. Whilst the shell is edible, most favour discarding it as conditions can make the pastry dirty.
