Mushroom Mash

Mushroom Mash, or Mash and Mushroom depending on whether you’re in the eastern or western part of Dvärghem, is a hearty dish of mashed potatoes served alongside fried onions and mushrooms, and as typical of Dvärg cuisine, with a slice of rye toast.

It is a simple dish requiring little time, much of it attributed to ensuring the potatoes are fully boiled, and is often consumed in the depths of winter when the snow is at its thickest. Most households have a braid of onions hanging in their kitchens and potatoes are a common, cheap sight in local markets.

The mushrooms are wild-forged, either freshly or dried for winter and soaked for half an hour before being chopped and fried.
