This simple spiced dish is a staple throughout the Udynea Empire. Because of the empire’s size, there are many opinions on what goes into this dish, be it lentil variation, the spices used or even the viscosity. The one commonality comes from the households and the insistence that their version is the superior one.
That being said, the base always begins with placing washed lentils in a pot of water with a little turmeric, ginger and garlic, bringing it all to a simmer and cooking until the lentils break down.
Amongst the empire’s slave and poorer classes, this is often the extent of their meals. For the rest of Udynea, the spiced variety is more vastly known. These spices are sautéed in a pan along with diced onions until browned, then the aromatic mixture is stirred into the cooked lentils.
