Vibeca's WorldEmber 2025

The Pledge

As yet another year draws to a close and the challenges of WorldEmber once again bear down on us Anvilites, I, Master Vibeca, pledge to do what it takes to achieve ten thousand words of my purest worldbuilding.

This worldbuilding shall take place in the city known by the name of Lenen, and it shall continue to shine a light not only on the city's geography, but more so on its inhabitants, society, institutions and politics.

I shall furthermore attempt to make use of a great many different templates so that my work may be considered by the fine gentlefolk, who will so generously take it upon themselves to study and asses so, so many submissions.

The Bingo-Board

Answering the Bingo

Be warned that this following part does not necessarily follow the instructions given on how to use the Bingo. I will more likely pick whichever tasks will help me prepare for the challenges ahead, regardless of their position on the board. If I happen to achieve a bingo, it will not have been planned.

Go for a walk

I strive to go for at least a short walk outside every day, provided the weather, time constraints and physical well-being allow it. Walks with me, myself and I are great to let my mind wander and come up with ideas, story elements or pieces of dialogue. Walks with friends and family on the other hand have a tendency to be long conversations about anything and everything, which sometimes provide useful insights into others thoughts and knowledge.

Review your category tree

Since this world is still a tiny one with not too many articles, the category tree I had in place mostly held up, I only added one sub-category under Organizations. If there should be the unforeseen need for another category, I shall have to add it during WorldEmber itself.

Read a book

I have recently (finally) managed to read more again and have finished the "Cursebreaker"-Trilogy by Brigid Kemmerer, the worldbuilding of which I feel has a similar vibe to my own work. I quite enjoyed the fact that the story felt slightly less predictable than your typical YA fantasy, particularly in books two and three, meaning I did for once not see every single plot-twist coming, which I found refreshing. I hope I will be able to keep with the habit of reading at least a few pages before bed through the stressful months that are November and December, as it is helpful not only for my worldbuilding but also for my mental health.

JOKER: Set up spreads in my journal

As a first-time journaler this year, I found that having my own customized planning space set up with pen and paper exactly the way I need it is really helping me stay organized. Not having to keep track of everything in my head and also not being forced to use pre-printed planners has been great for my brain. Having learned this about myself, I have set up some journal pages for previous challenges this year, and for WorldEmber, I have gone all out and made two full spreads for both the preparation and the challenge itself. This will help me track my progress and hopefully keep me motivated to keep going.

Defining the scope

My main focus for WorldEmber is going to be the city of Lenen, since it is the main stage for the happenings in my story and still in desperate need of fleshing out. What may seem like a rather small area of focus is about as much as I can handle this WorldEmber season.

Refresh your author page

I have updated my mostly still accurate, but slightly outdated introduction of myself on my profile page and am now happy with it once again.

Lists of articles to write and stubs to expand

Both have been written, and the entries are ready to become actual articles.

More Reviews

I have reviewed my homepage and come to the conclusion, that it's still missing a few things, but I am not currently able to create these things, so the homepage will have to stay the way it is for now. The same unfortunately goes for my worlds visual appearance. When it comes to a world primer article, I do not really have one, and I don't feel like I need one either, and that is it for that. In terms of reviewing my world inspirations, those are quite difficult to review, as they are not necessarily tangible or even pinpointable. Still, I did my best, and I have a clear idea of the vibe and time period I am going for.
