The Royal Palace
The Royal Palace in the city of Lenen, sometimes also referred to as the Citadel, is the political centre of the kingdom of Keider. It is where the King, his family and his court reside and where decisions regarding the entire kingdom are made. While the word palace might indicate a single, large building, it is in fact much more than than. Located in the south-eastern corner of Lenen, the palace is walled off into its own citadel.
Aside from the main palais, where the extended royal family and their staff live and work, the palace grounds encompass many other buildings. These include stables, barracks, an armoury, several granaries as well as several other buildings. The grounds also boast extensive gardens with meticulously kept lawns, paths and flower beds as well as some wilder parts with old trees and some shrubbery.
The gardens reach all the way to the south-eastern corner of Lenen, where the rivers Kanbe and Selne meet. There, one can nowadays take a stroll on a wide terrace overlooking the rivers and the land beyond. Battlements are still maintained in case of an attack, though with cannons having been established, the main riverside defense has been moved inside the walls rather than on top of them.
Originally, the palace grounds were a fortress designed to protect the conjunction of the rivers, since it was an important trade hotspot for the kingdom.
The city of Lenen then grew around the fortress. Due to its strategic importance and its relatively central location within the kingdom's borders, it was eventually chosen as the capital of Keider.
Since then, the fortress was transformed from a military facility to a citadel worthy of Kings. Nowadays, the Royal Palace is renowned for its pomp and lavish beauty, and many dream of visiting it.
