The Rebellion of the Gods

Once upon a time, when the world was young and the Continent was still in one piece, before humans walked the earth, there was a young goddess. She was one of the Divine King and Queen's many children. Like all her siblings, it was her task to do her parents's bidding both in the Divine Kingdom and down on the Continent they had created. This young goddess, however, had an independent and devious mind.

Soon, the young goddess grew dissatisfied with her role in the Divine Kingdom, craving more than the limited power she was granted. She therefore gathered some of her siblings who felt similarly, and together, they started a rebellion against the rule of the Divine King and Queen. The rest of their progeny soon chose sides, and the rebellion escalated into a full-fledged war, nearly tearing apart the Divine Kingdom. The Continent was one of the battlegrounds, and the war between the gods with their tremendous powers ripped the land to shreds violently. Mountains, canyons, lakes and islands were created.

Eventually, the Divine King and Queen and their loyal progeny prevailed, crushing the rebellion. Most of the rebels were pardoned and welcomed back into the Divine Kingdom, but the young goddess who had instigated the rebellion was punished for what she had done. She was exiled to a region in the south of the continent and magically barred from ever leaving it again.

After the war ended, the young goddess was banished to the south of the continent. At first, she tried to find a way to leave, but she had to find out that there wasn't one.

In her anger and desperation, she let loose her power, causing her land to break away from the Continent, leaving behind a jagged cliff coast that is now known as the Broken Coast.

True believers in the Church of the Divine King and Queen consider the islands beyond the Broken Coast unholy land that is to be avoided at all costs, calling them the Banished Isles.
