The Plains

The Plains are located in the southern-most part of the mainland of Keider. Even though they are surrounded by the sea on three sides, large parts of the Plains are a desert. With its dry climate, adverse weather conditions and poor soil, few people live there, and travellers often take the long way around. The Plains do not have a particularly hot climate, but that does not make them any less challenging to inhabit. Most of the inhabitants of the Plains are plants and critters that are accustomed to a desert.

With shifting winds, the landscape of the Plains is constantly shifting and changing slightly. Sandstorms, which are quite common here, can completely alter the landscape in a matter of minutes. This makes the region difficult to live in and a challenge to navigate, but the few people living here have adapted to these conditions, adapting their clothing and their camps to the climate and navigating using the sky as reference.

Despite being a very challenging region to live in most of the time, the harshness of the environment has its own kind of beauty, drawing the occasional adventurous tourist to the area. It rarely rains on the Plains, but when it does during the summer, the area comes to life in a spectacular, stunningly beautiful way. The plants that lay dormant most of the time suddenly bloom all at once, turning the normally quite monotonous and drab-looking landscape into a sea of colour for a few days.
