The Banished Isles

The Banished Isles are found in the south-west of the Continent beyond the Broken Coast. They are known for their lavish forests, their beautiful mountains, hills and cliffs and their lovely beaches, but also for their inhabitants's culture that is so very different from that on the Continent, even though there isn't much distance between the mainland and the isles in most places.

The islanders are traders and voyagers and come to the mainland frequently. Even though their goods are highly sought after, the traders are often discriminated against on the mainland. Several materials found on the isles are rarely or not at all found anywhere else on the Continent, and many luxury goods are manufactured there exclusively. Still, mainlanders do not usually travel there but rely on traders from the isles to come to their markets, afraid to set foot on unholy land.

Some people will even have items purchased from a trader from the isles blessed by a church official after purchase to make sure they're not cursed and no longer have any lingering unholiness from their place of origin in them. This practise is considered quite extreme and rather silly by many mainlanders, but some still firmly believe in its necessity. It is also the reason why there always is some form of chapel or temple near any market.
