Sadi Star Charts

Star charts are a very useful tool in navigation and science, especially for folk who sail the seas or live in regions where landmarks are few and far between or constantly shifting and changing and therefore unreliable waypoints. While many people have and use star charts as a means of navigation and scientific exploration, the nomadic Sadi people, who live on the Plains in southern Keider, have made theirs into works of art.

What was originally a simple tool to tell time and direction, has become much more than that. To the Sadi, a star chart is a clock, calendar and compass, and it represents connetion to people, places and the supernatural. Therefore, it is not only a tool to facilitate earthly functions, it also is believed to be a tool to worship celestial beings.

The star charts of the Sadi come in many varieties. Some are carved into stone or wood, some are painted on various surfaces, some are woven into tapestries or fabrics. The possibiities are truly endless, but all have one thing in common; they are all expertly made with great accuracy and attention to detail by very skilled artisans.

Whilst the star charts of the Sadi are always works of art and revered items in their culture, they are pointless without a person to know how to read them.

The people who do are usually the elders of their communities who have spent a long time learning to interpret the stars among other things.

They are who their people turn to with their needs and questions, and they are considered wise, experienced leaders, and it is said that they are able to communicate with the supernatural.
