Lenenport Sound

Lenenport Sound is a long, narrow stretch of the sea leading inland all the way to the town of Lenenport. It stretches from the mouth of the river Kanbe all the way out to the Weeping Cliffs near the northernmost island of the South Islands, which do not belong to the kingdom of Keider, but are their own kingdom. The waters of Lenenport Sound entirely belong to Keider's territory.

It is known for its pretty landscapes and fairly calm waters that come as a relief after the challenging waters leading ships toward the entrance of the Sound. On both shores of Lenenport Sound, lighthouses have been constructed at more or less equal intervals, guiding ships safely to the port day and night. Most of these lighthouses are quite simply built, though some are legitimate architectural works of art well worth a visit.

Even though Lenenport is a small town and Lenenport Sound can be difficult to reach in some seasons, the harbour of Lenenport is one of the most important ports in Keider, as it is the capital city's primary acces point to the open sea. Lenenport Sound therefore is part of a very busy shipping route for both national and international trade on the continent.

The way into and out of Lenenport Sound is infamous amongst sailors for its narrow passages between islands and its unpredictable currents.

Since several large rivers empty into the waters of the area, currents can change depending on the tide and the changing amounts of water flowing from the rivers from season to season.

Combined with the existence of the many islands in the area, these currents can also cause shifting shallows and sandbanks, making for a challenging approach.
