High Council of the Guild

The High Council of the Guild is the group of people which leads the Guild, a secret underground organization of assassins. It is comprised of five individuals elected by all Guild members every five years, with reelections happening in case a member of the council should get discovered or die. The members of the High Council therefore usually are members that are either universally revered or feared among the Guild, or in many cases both.

The High Council is the leading entity of the Guild, but it does not necessarily make all executive decisions, as that is the Superiors job. The Superior of the Guild always is a member of the High Council, but they can veto any decision made by the council, even if all four other members are of a different opinion. This does however not happen very often, and even if it does, said Superior then usually finds themselves killed by the other members of the High Council soon after.

Members of the High Council generally also hold high-ranking positions in society, politics and military formations, helping the Guild to surveil the goings on of the city and the kingdom. Currently, the High Council of the Guild is comprised of the current Superior Lady Oriane, the King's Mistress, the Major of the City Watch of Lenen, a member of the City Council and a Captain of the Royal Army, making it a group of some of the most influential people in the kingdom, whose motives and principles are, at the very least, questionable.

In the early days of the Guild, its inner workings were established by the King's spymaster, who founded the Guild as a way to make his job easier.

The power dynamic within the Guild in a way mirrors that of the Royal Court. There too, there is a council of five known as the Council of Masters.

It consists of the King and his most important advisors, generally including a master of books, a master of coin, a master of war and a spymaster or some variation of that.

The Council of Masters is led by the King, who has the power to veto any decision the council makes, with the slight difference that he does not usually get killed for doing it.
