Church of the Divine King and Queen
The church of the Divine King and Queen is the most prevolent religious organization in the kingdom of Keider. The majority of people in the kingdom belong to this faith and believe that the continent and everything on it were created by a pair of divine beings who benevolently, if harshly, rule over it as Divine King and Queen. Believers generally do their best to live according to religious rules to allow their souls to ascend to the Divine Kingdom after their death.
In life, the church as an organization assumes authority over helping believers to achieve this goal by assuring that their rules are being followed. Religious officials are in charge of interpreting the holy texts and how the rules that are mentioned in them are to be followed in a practical application. It is the church's opinion that all people are in need of some help in order to achieve ascension, whether they want it or not.
Along with government and military, the church is one of the most powerful and influential organizations in Keider. It is arguably even more powerful than even the royal court, as it holds sway even over the King himself. The faith influences every part of life, down to the perception of men and women and their respective roles in society modelled after the Divine King and Queen. Even though the religious texts as they are are rather open to interpretation, the church tends to push one specific version regarding the correct way to live, be it about gender roles or the right way to atone for mistakes.
While many believers also believe that the church is acting in their best interest, some argue that it should be everyone's private business to live according to the texts the way they personally interpret them.
Those voices accuse the church of pushing their own values and opinions on the believers rather than allowing for independent thinking, influencing not only religious life, but also things such as education.
Still, the church is one of the few organizations in Keider that has not (yet) been infiltrated, undermined and corrupted by the Guild, a secret organization of assassins.
