T&NWJR B Class 0-6-0T

The T&NWJR B class was a class of 0-6-0T steam locomotives introduced into traffic in 1892 designed by the railway's engineer Alan McCullough. There were initially three locos in the class. A further 6 'B1’ locomotives with a larger boiler and higher tractive effort were built in 1906. All 13 were built with shorter cabs and funnels in order to work on the Newhaven branch line as it had a shorter loading gauge than the rest of the line.   In 1947, B1 Class ENR № 40391 was transfered to run on the recently overtaken Tew Valley branch line to replace the aging fleet of engines running the line until it was preserved when the line became a heratige line in 1972.
