Railmotor №106
ECR Railmotor №106 was built in 1879 when Robert Atkinson constructed a single bogied passenger coach and mounted it on a withdrawn 0-4-2 tender engine that had been rebuilt as a 2-2-0 with an enclosed cab, an inverted saddle tank and a large coal bunker.
106 was used on the Ashfield to Hanley branchline but was hard to maintain and refuel requiring a back-up locomotive and coach set to be used when she was undergoing repairs. Because of this 106 was withdrawin shortly after the turn of the century. After withdrawal she entered departmental stock as a mobile kitchen for track repair crews. The powered unit was removed and scrapped in 1906 at Buckfield, the passenger unit was converted into a regular passenger coach.
