NER 264 Class 0-6-0T
The North Etorean Railway (NER) 264 Class 0-6-0T was a class of seventeen 0-6-0T type steam locomotive designed for light goods traffic. They were quickly superceeded by D Class 0-6-0Ts aswell as E Class and F Class 0-6-0s causing the class to be relegated to lesser roles; withdrawals began in 1903, the class was extinct on the mainline by 1913.
Designed by Matthew Raine, the 264 Class locomotives were intended to replace locomotives then in use on the former Roxton & Cherringham Railway lines as the 2-4-0s and 0-6-0s then in use were chronically under-powered and (in some cases) dated back to the late 1840s. For the
Two locomotives of the 264 Class were sold by the NER; the first (№ 266A) was sold to the Seawell Colliery as their № 3 "Seawell". The second (№ 270A) was sold to the Locksley Docks & Harbour Co. as their locomotive "McClean". Of the two, "McClean" was was in operation until 1943 after which she was shunted into one of the sidings that held withdrawn locomotives and was gradually stripped for spare parts with her remains being scrapped on site in 1952.
