GER "Kitson Goods" 0-6-0s

The Great Eastern Railways "Kitson Goods" (later Class 19) was a class of fifty - four 0-6-0 goods locomotives designed by Kitson of Leeds, England and built for the GER.
In 1875, A. G. Fraser was appointed locomotive superintendant of the Great Eastern Railway with his main task being the renewal of the GER's locomotive fleet. The first to be replaced were the several old goods locomotives, some of which dated to around 1846. For this, like many other companies, he turned to Kitson & Co. of Leeds and ordered 54 of their standard 0-6-0 goods locomotive. The first of them arrived in Knightsbury in late 1876 and the withdrawal of the older 2-4-0 and 0-6-0s began.   Similar locomotives were ordered by the Eastern Counties Railway.
